Ubud town is a great place to spend time during the day even evening. You can walk around the town, visit markets, monkey forest and Ubud palace. You can try the local food, the suckling pig or many restaurants available around. Here is a small guide on where you can walk around Ubud, it will take you from half day to one day depending on the length of time you visit each spot described here.
Below is Ubud town map. The red dot at the cross road near the top on the left is where people you can start strolling around Ubud. I put it there since all the shuttle buses, cars, from hotels around Ubud stop there.
The green spot on the map beside the red dot is Bu Oka suckling pig stall. Very popular among the locals and the expat living there.
The red spot is Puri Saren or Ubud Palace. You can get inside the outside yard of the palace, and some area in the inner area. You will not see much here, but you can see the gate to inner yard where dance performance held every night. Passing the gate, you will see some pavilion and gardens. Beyond that, you will see no entry sign.
The yellow dot accross the road is the town centre. You can stop there and take a photo of the building. Probably there are some leaflet or news paper to read about local events.
The blue dot is where Ubud market is located. Divided into 2 parts, the western part is where the souvenirs were sold. The eastern part is where the locals would go to get their daily needs.
The brown dot is, you guess it, monkey forests. Tropical lush forests with ponds, temples, river, valleys, are available. Oh, yea, forget to mention the monkeys.
The pink dot is the Dirty Duck restaurant.
The blue line is the track you can follow to walk around Ubud. There is small red square as alternative is to walk around if you feel the blue lines is to far to walk around.
